Avalanche Move Brings Back Familiar Face

Compher Returns to Denver

In a move that brings back a fan favorite to the Mile High City, the Colorado Avalanche signed free agent forward JT Compher to a one-year contract worth $3.25 million. Compher spent the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Avalanche before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in 2023. He returns to Denver after putting up 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 77 games with the Coyotes last season.

Compher, who will wear No. 37 with the Avalanche, is expected to play a key role on the team's top nine forward lines. He is known for his speed, versatility, and ability to play both center and wing. The 27-year-old forward has recorded three seasons with at least 30 points and has 151 points (57 goals, 94 assists) in 393 career NHL games.
