Darren Waller: Giants TE's NFL Future Uncertain

Retirement or Return?

Darren Waller, the talented tight end who joined the New York Giants last offseason, has hinted that he may be considering retirement at the age of 31.

In a recent interview with reporters, Waller expressed his uncertainty about his future in the NFL. "I'm not sure if I'll return to the field next season," he said. "I've been thinking about retirement lately."

Waller has had a successful NFL career to date, making the Pro Bowl in 2020 after posting two consecutive seasons with over 1,100 receiving yards while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, he has also faced some physical challenges, including a hamstring injury that limited him to six games in 2023.

If Waller does decide to retire, it will be a significant loss for the Giants, who were counting on him to be a key contributor on offense. The team signed Waller to a three-year, $24 million contract last offseason, making him one of their highest-paid players.

The Giants are hoping that Waller will ultimately decide to return for the 2024 season. However, they are also preparing for the possibility that he will retire, and have been exploring potential replacements.
