The Verdict

Chad Daybell Found Guilty in Murders of First Wife and Stepchildren

The Verdict

Chad Daybell was convicted Thursday by a jury of first-degree murder in the deaths of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and two children of his current spouse, Lori Vallow Daybell.

The Investigation

The investigation began in July 2019, when Tammy Daybell's body was found in her husband's backyard in Fremont County, Idaho. Two months later, the remains of Lori Vallow Daybell's children, 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan, were discovered buried on Chad Daybell's property in neighboring Madison County.

The Marriage

Chad and Lori Vallow married just two weeks after Tammy Daybell's death, raising further suspicions. They had only known each other for a few months at the time.

The Motive

The motive for the murders is still unclear, but prosecutors believe Chad Daybell was driven by religious extremism and a desire for money.
