Damage Survey Completed, Threat Lessens

Morristown, TN - April 3, 2024

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that a large and extremely dangerous tornado touched down in Morgan County, Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon. The NWS office in Morristown completed its damage survey late Wednesday evening, confirming the tornado's path and intensity.

According to the NWS, the tornado was rated an EF-3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with winds estimated at 136-165 mph. The tornado traveled approximately 10 miles, causing significant damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

While the immediate threat of tornadoes has lessened as storms have shifted east, the NWS warns that there is still a Level 2 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes possible. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and take precautions if severe weather approaches.
